We read Room 8 @ Owairaka School's blog today and they have had Road Safety Week.
We have to be road safe all the time as we have to cross a road to get to our playground. We all go across the road 4 times a day - at interval and lunchtime. Some of us have to go 6 to 8 times as that is the way we enter and leave the school as well.
We are only one of 3 schools in the whole of New Zealand that have to cross the road between playgrounds and classes.

It is so cool that you are one of 3 schools that have to cross the road to get to the playground,but sometimes do you wish to just walk a few steps and then get to your playground?Next time you should add pictures of students going across the road and being road safety!

ReplyDeleteHi Mangapapa School. Its Owairaka. I really think that road safety week is really important because people I know aren't being safe when crossing the roads. Even some o the people I sometimes hang out with aren't looking left right before and while they are crossing the road. Sometimes it can be the drivers fault though. BYE!!!

ReplyDeleteI agree with many of the Owairaka students above - your photography is fantastic! It is incredible that some of your students are using that crossing up to 8 times a day. I am sure that your students are very aware of being safe on our roads. The weather is getting rainy and slippery here in Auckland, so it is more important than ever that we are mindful when crossing the road! Is your road in Gisborne a busy road with lots of traffic? Do any Room 8 students at Mangapapa do Road Patrol?

It is very unusual that you have to be road safe to get to your PLAYGROUND!
I bet everyone is very road safe at your school and As i can see in you great photos that it must be very important that people understand road safety. How AMAZING that you are ONE if three schools that have roads between the playground and the class rooms.
Do students come late to class because of traffic???
